Originally the chunk of material made me think of a whale, then after cleaning up and grinding down the edges I decided to try for a dolphin instead. This little guy is small (23g), I did not want to get over ambitious with my first animal carving, but is adorable! You can see a little druzy pocket I kept on his back right behind his fin, I tried to preserve it as much as possible. I personally chose this slice to bring home and polish because I knew the multicolored orbs and druzy would be stunning with some shine. Before and after pictures show the original slice purchased and what it looks like now, after I spent a few hours polishing it. This piece is a beautiful example of great quality orbicular patterns, well defined circles with and without borders. Polishing this piece was a bit challenging because I wanted to keep some of the natural textures, the druzy and the edges rough. This piece was carved 100% by myself in my Ontario workshop. As soon as I saw the large chunk of rough unicorn stone, I knew I just had to try to carve my first skull out of it. This material is really interesting and is made of multiple minerals. This particular stone shows the typical pink tourmaline spots and bursts of purple lepidolite mica, but also has a bit of a blue\/greenish grey hue to it as well, making it truly one-of-a-kind. There are not many skulls made from this material so it would be a great addition for any crystal skull collectors! I love how this piece turned out and I am proud to offer it for sale after many hours of hard work put into it!
